What are ozonized oils and how are they made?
Ozonized oils are produced through a process called ozonation, which involves infusing high-quality, cold-pressed carrier oils (such as olive oil or jojoba oil) with ozone gas. Avobenzone - a chemical compound commonly used in sunscreens for its ability to absorb UVA rays and protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. However, it has raised some concerns over the years, with the FDA pointing out it could potentially be an endocrine disruptor. Additionally, avobenzone is known to break down rapidly when exposed to sunlight, which can reduce its effectiveness.
Homosalate: A commonly used chemical in sunscreens that helps prevent the absorption of the sun's most harmful rays. However, it is potentially an endocrine disruptor, which some studies suggest could impact hormones
Oxybenzone - another ingredient that has been under scrutiny, this chemical is commonly used in sunscreens for its ability to absorb UV radiation. However, studies have suggested that Oxybenzone can be
absorbed through the skin and may have hormone-disrupting effects.
Octinoxate - another ingredient that has raised concerns. It is used in sunscreens to absorb UVB rays but has been found to cause allergic reactions in some individuals and may also have hormone-disrupting effect.
When it comes to choosing between mineral and chemical sunscreens, mineral sunscreens are generally considered to be safer and more suitable for sensitive skin. They provide a physical barrier against UV radiation and are less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. Additionally, mineral sunscreens are generally more stable than chemical sunscreens and do not break down as quickly in sunlight.
