Do I really need SPF when it’s cloudy or cold?

Yes. UVA rays are present year-round and can penetrate clouds and glass. That means exposure still happens even when it’s overcast, cold, or when you’re indoors near windows. Urban Defense is designed for daily use in real-world conditions — not just obvious sun.

Is this only for the beach or holidays?

No. Urban Defence is designed for everyday exposure — commutes, office windows, school runs, workouts, and daily life. It works exceptionally well at the beach too, but it isn’t designed as a beach-only product.

Why did you choose chemical UV filters instead of mineral?

We believe the best sunscreen is the one people will actually use every day. 
While mineral sunscreens have benefits, real-world feedback consistently showed that texture, white cast, and wearability often prevent consistent daily use. Urban Defense uses modern, photostable UV filters — including octinoxate — because they allow us to deliver high protection in a formula that people are comfortable using daily.

Is octinoxate safe?

Octinoxate is one of the most widely studied UVB filters globally and is approved for use by major regulatory authorities when formulated correctly. In Urban Defense, it is used within regulated limits and stabilised as part of a broader photostable UV system designed for daily wear.

Can I use this over makeup?

Yes. Urban Defense is designed to be reapplied during the day and can be used over makeup without disrupting it. This makes it suitable for real-world reapplication — at work, on the go, or between activities.

 Is Urban Defence dermatologist-tested?

Yes. Urban Defense has been dermatologist tested.

As with any skincare product, individual skin can react differently. We always recommend patch testing before first use, especially if you have sensitive or reactive skin.

Mineral  Sunscreen

Does the Mineral sunscreen leave a white cast?

We’re transparent: yes, it can.

Like all effective mineral sunscreens using Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, some visible residue is inherent to these premium UV filters. The cast is more noticeable on deeper skin tones, though thorough blending minimises this on fair to medium complexions.

Can I wear makeup over this sunscreen?

Whilst some users successfully layer makeup over our mineral SPF, we’ve received feedback from others about pilling and texture issues when used under makeup.

For optimal results, we recommend using this product on no-makeup days or when wearing minimal makeup.
